Girls Evolution Pathway

Huddersfield Giants Community Trust provides Development days for girls aged 12-16 to experience and receive the opportunity of outstanding Rugby League coaching from a professional Women’s Rugby League setup.

The girls programme is available to u’16s, creating pathway opportunities into Rugby League environments at community club level and in Giants Women structures.

Numerous players from previous development days are now featuring in the Giants Women First Team in Super League. This pathway provides a strong link into the professional setup, also supporting the development of local community clubs and the England Talent Pathway.

Previous attendees and GiantsWRL players share their experiences on their pathway journeys.

Ellie Thompson: “There is no doubt that the quality of coaching during these sessions was of a high level which I really enjoyed and the advice I received helped improve my game. As I live near Newcastle, other than playing away games mainly in and around the North East, being able to attend the pathway development sessions gave me the stage to showcase my ability.”

Erin Stott: “I started off playing Rugby Union, and my first experience of Rugby League was during the Evolution Pathway when I was 15. The coaches helped me transfer my skills from Union into League. From taking part in the programme, I played my first League game for Huddersfield Giants, in the Championship, a few days after my 16th birthday scoring my first ever Rugby League try.”

Pippa Curley: “It was fantastic to receive the coaching from all the Giants coaches. The sessions were fun and well organised. Mixing with players from other clubs that I usually played against, was a great experience that I could draw on when starting with the Women’s Super League team.”

Bella Sykes: “I felt the Giants talent pathway gave me an insight into the intensity of training at a high level. I learnt key skills which I now apply to my game. It provided me a pathway into the Womens Super League squad, which is something I had always dreamed and worked towards. Thanks to the pathway it has kick started my rugby success, but most of all gave me more opportunity to play the sport I love so much.”

After a successful partnership with Bradford Bulls in 2021, we are delighted to be working with the foundation again with all age groups. As part of the development days, confirmed development fixtures with Bradford Bulls are noted in the details below.
