At HGCT we have a vision of how we would like the future to look within Kirklees and the surrounding communities.
Our vision is that:
Our School Partnership Programme looks to realise this vision by building strong working relationships with local schools dedicated to proactively promoting the health and well-being of pupils and their families. In practice this sees dedicated Huddersfield Giants Partner Schools Officers based within Partner Schools, each for one or more days a week throughout a school year, allowing staff to build strong positive relationships with staff and pupils.
Delivery is bespoke on a school by school basis to best meet the needs of each Partner School through mutually planning and agreeing an engaging and inspiring yearlong plan of delivery with each school. Your dedicated Partner Schools Officer will be highly skilled to deliver outstanding PE lessons, healthy eating programmes and literacy/numeracy intervention upon extra-curricular activities such as after-school clubs to support schools in achieving aims set by the national curriculum.
Although the programme is primarily aimed at pupils, we are keen to build a positive two-way relationship with staff and teachers too. Becoming a Partner School enables staff to take advantage of CPD opportunities and receive invites for events. Among further benefits, the whole school will receive an opportunity to attend Huddersfield Giants match days to celebrate the school partnership and to obtain FREE play vouchers for use at our home The Zone.
Included for the 2020/21 academic year, we are introducing a half term of the SkyTry initiative delivered alongside the schools partner package – Find out about SkyTry
Head of School at Scissett CE Academy Cathy Hampshire commented, “We have found the Partner Schools Officers to always be enthusiastic, professional and keen to be involved in our school life. They have quickly developed a good rapport with our pupils and staff, delivering high-quality PE skills.”
“We feel that the partnership offers excellent value for money, with skilled staff working in partnership with us to develop pupil confidence and skills across a range of sports. The programme enables us to use sports coaches as positive role models for young people, within sport and literacy.”
“We are keen to engage a greater amount of pupils into a variety of regular sporting activities both across the school and at lunchtimes. With the range of rewards available through the programme, we feel pupils will also be greater engaged and gain a lifelong enthusiasm for sporting activities.”

The sessions so far have been really good and exciting. Teaching staff have mentioned how engaged the children are and how happy they have been the way the lessons have been delivered. The school has been happy with the confidence of the person delivering the lessons as well as their knowledge and professionalism. It has helped teachers working alongside to gain ideas and development in their own practice Overall the school has been very happy with the delivery of the sessions as well as the person (Jordan) delivering them. Thank You!
Nadeem Sarwar, PE Coordinator, Spring Grove
Rebecca has been brilliant in school. Her management in club time is fantastic and coping with Autistic and ADHD children in sessions as well. Her planning, activity organisation and management, as well as knowledge of the children, and rapport with everyone has been so professional we couldn't have asked for more. The children have really enjoyed all the sessions.
Debbie Douglas, Headteacher, Saville Town
Becky is amazing her delivery is great. She has a great rapport with the children. Her sessions are engaging and fun and she's teaching my staff a thing or two about sports delivery. All in all, we could not be happier.
Louise Brown, Headfield Juniors
Great relationships with the children which promote mutual respect, clear boundaries and great behaviour for learning. Clear structure to the lessons with appropriate teaching points, plenary and vocabulary. I can see clear progress in terms of skills, techniques, confidence and understanding. Acts on feedback throughout the lesson from me and his own formative assessment.
Dan Gough, Heaton Avenue
PE lessons and support in PE lessons are great! Children are enjoying lunchtime clubs. Good relationships with children - building relationships. Sharing tickets to the rugby games with the children and encouraging them to try to watch different sports. The sessions during the breakfast club are extremely engaging and the majority of children who chose to go outside to take part in Jordan’s sessions they are also very fun based and extremely inclusive so all abilities can take part successfully. Jordan is always punctual and is pleasant with the children.
