A year of impact

Published: 31st December 2025

Concluding on 2025. The past year at Huddersfield Giants Community Trust.

Over the last year, the Trust has proudly delivered sustained growth, strengthening the impact and reach across Kirklees and beyond, while continually building connections and enhancing partnerships.

Throughout the year we have delivered a range of positive initiatives that align with our vision; to be recognised and supported as a charity and be the number one provider of fun, sport, education and social inclusion, whilst meeting the needs of the local community.

We have supported, engaged and created pathways for individuals, groups and families of all ages. You can view a short recap of the last 12 months below.

Collaboration and Community support

Strong collaboration is key and working with partners, funders and sponsors over the year has enabled the Trust to deliver vital opportunities and targeted support within the community.

The cost of living and the needs of the local community is ever increasing. Through our partnerships and appeals we received an overwhelming response to both our most recent Coat and Toy appeals. This enabled us to distribute more than 100 coats and a substantial number of gifts to support those who need it most.

In addition, through our Warm Space provision, we supported over 270 vulnerable households by providing access to programmes, services and a safe, welcoming environment at our community hub, The Zone.

Fundraising

Fundraising continues to play a vital role in sustaining and expanding the Trust’s work. This year, we delivered several well-supported fundraising events, with strong engagement from both internal and external supporters.

In October we held the fourth instalment of the Giant Howarth Sleepout which raised over £17,000 which will directly support vulnerable people through our community projects. Alongside this we held a Charity race night, The Huddersfield Hike and participated in the Manchester Half Marathon.

The level of support received throughout the year has been exceptional and remains critical to the Trust’s ability to serve the local community.

Projects and programmes

Through sport, education, physical activity, and social inclusion, the Trust has expanded it’s delivery across a broader range of sectors, engaging more participants than ever before.

Key and notable developments during 2025 included:

  • The re-launch of Touch Rugby League in January, now engaging over 30 new participants.

  • The continued expansion of the Giant Evolution Pathway, with delivery extended to two additional community clubs, increasing access and participation.

  • The launch of MAN v FAT Rugby, a weekly weight-loss programme supporting men through physical activity and lifestyle change.

  • This year’s Ronan Costello Festival welcomed over 100 players across the 7–9 age groups, giving them the unforgettable experience of playing on the pitch at the newly named Accu Stadium in honour and memory of Ronan Costello.
  • The expansion of Short Breaks provision into school holidays, offering inclusive activities for children and young people with disabilities while providing essential respite for families.

  • Growth of the Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme, with delivery across three locations, ensuring children remained active, connected and well-fed.

  • School holiday provision supported through sponsorship, allowing free places for children experiencing poverty and removing financial barriers to participation.

  • Delivery of Alternative Provision through a Youth Endowment Fund mentoring project, supporting disengaged learners across ten secondary schools in Kirklees. Using sport as a tool, the programme focused on improving attendance, behaviour and positive relationships.

Education and Early Years provision

The momentum we are creating by engaging individuals through sport in primary and early years sectors is building strong foundations. This year we introduced the nursery provision, alongside the primary and secondary partner schools delivery. Heading into early 2026, we will be supporting over twelve early years settings.

The Zone

The Zone, our community hub, remains the heartbeat of the Trust’s delivery. All activities are powered and delivered by the Trust, including the early years activities and the Multi-Sensory Zone.

Over the past 12 months, The Zone has hosted a wide range of activities and events, including rugby, football and cricket tournaments, corporate team builds, exclusive events, networking and community activities.

Experiences

Development and opportunities are a key aspiration of the team at the Trust.

During 2025, 14 competition cheerleading teams competed at multiple competitions, achieving outstanding success and winning numerous awards. A standout highlight was taking a team to Florida in April to compete at the All Star World Championships, alongside training at some of the world’s leading sports facilities. An unforgettable experience for all involved.

Members of our Dewsbury Youth Club attended the Super League Grand Final in October, giving young people the chance to experience a major sporting event they may otherwise not have accessed.

There have been so many experiences and opportunities, and this is only a small selection, but if you would like to learn more about our work please reach out via hello@hgct.co.uk

We are looking forward to the challenges, opportunities and experiences of 2026. Happy New Year!
