Dalton JIN School becomes the latest school to become Huddersfield Giants Partner School.
In 2017 Dalton School were involved in an extremely successful pilot of the initiative that led to it to be rolled out throughout Kirklees schools earlier this year. Head of Sport, Jonathan Timms explains:
“Early last year I sat with a number of school staff to discuss their PE, health and education requirements and it became clear that a long-term initiative to increase the health and wellbeing of young people was required. Angela at Dalton shared this vision and was extremely receptive to building a long-term relationship that saw a member of staff in school for a full day each week throughout the academic year.
The pilot quickly showed its ability to make an impact developing the health and wellbeing of school pupils and the delivery capabilities of school staff.”
Following the pilot, school pupils and staff were asked their feedback of the pilot, and the responses were overwhelmingly positive.
As part of the Partner Schools initiative, Dalton School will receive a dedicated member of staff one day a week that will work closely with school pupils and staff to deliver high-quality PE, health and education sessions throughout the academic year.
Primary schools interested in becoming a Huddersfield Giants Partner School are encouraged to contact Jonathan Timms (jonathan.timms@huddersfieldcommunitytrust.co.uk) at the earliest opportunity to discuss their schools’ requirements.
