Giants Community Trust has been awarded The Household Support Fund to help vulnerable households over the winter months.
The Trust has launched a Warm Space at The Zone, the community hub in the centre of Huddersfield, thanks to funding from One Community foundation.
The Household Support Fund, provided by Kirklees Council is winter support to help vulnerable families and individuals who are going through some of the toughest months due to the increasing energy and food costs.
Thanks to the funding of £8868.27, this enabled the Trust to provide a warm welcoming and supportive environment full of weekly activities ranging from rugby and football sessions, parent and toddler activities, to indoor soft play visits. The Zone is also available for social meet ups, family gatherings which includes meals and refreshments.
Partnering with local organisations and education services, we have distributed over 500 vouchers to individuals and households enabling them to access the services, refreshments/ food and a warm space. The sessions are only accessible using the vouchers distributed, making entry seamless, user friendly and welcoming.
Jordan Foster on the funding: “We were delighted to be awarded The Household Fund from One Community Foundation. Winter is a very tough time of the year and we are grateful to be able to create access for vulnerable households to attend activities at The Zone. Although we would like to, we know we can’t help everyone, but by working closely with trusted partners, we are able to reach the families who need it most. We hope to play a small part in supporting wellbeing, connection and dignity during a time when many households are facing real challenges.”
