Earlier in the year through the winter period, Giants Community Trust was awarded The Household Support Fund from One Community Foundation to help vulnerable households in the community.
The Household Support Fund, provided by Kirklees Council is winter support to vulnerable families and individuals going through some of the toughest months.
Partnering with local organisations and education services, at the beginning of the year we distributed over 500 vouchers to individuals and households enabling them to access our services, refreshments/ food and a warm space at our community hub, The Zone.
We provided weekly activities that ranged from rugby and football sessions, parent and toddler activities, to indoor soft play visits. The Zone was also available for social meet ups, family gatherings with meals and refreshments provided. The sessions were accessible using the vouchers distributed, making entry seamless, user friendly and welcoming.
In total we served 271 households, welcoming families through the doors of The Zone, offering a warm safe space, a level of assistance and support including providing uplifting moments, through times of difficulty.
Jordan Foster on the funding: “We were delighted to be awarded The Household Fund from One Community Foundation. Winter can be a very tough time of the year and with the Trust being awarded the funding we were able to create access for vulnerable households to attend activities at The Zone which we were delighted to be able to do, and contributing to make a real impact.”
