An evening of sporting triumph for all who attended HCT’s Awards Presentation and Networking Event on Wednesday 9th November.
The evening started with an awards presentation for children who take part in sporting activities at The Zone. Over 35 parents and children attended, it was the perfect evening out for all the family!
Special guest host included sporting greats such as Baz Collie, who led Great Britain’s junior gymnastics team to success in the European Championships, and is the current men’s gymnastics national coach for Great Britain. Baz was accompanied by Nile Wilson, the first British man to win an Olympic medal in the horizontal bar by claiming bronze at this year’s Olympics in Rio.
Altogether the guest hosts awarded 12 medals to the children for ‘Outstanding Achievement in Sports’. A proud moment for all the families involved!
After the children’s event, over 30 local businesses around Huddersfield were invited to The Zone for a networking event. To find out more about the fantastic work that HCT do and to hear from the guest speakers Nile Wilson and Baz Collie.
Chair of Trustees, Mike Farrar, began the evening with a speech about the trust and work carried out by the 6 departments that HCT are responsible for, which include The Zone, the Dance Zone, Huddersfield Giants Community Trust, Huddersfield Town Community Trust, the Elite Sports Education Academy and the National Citizen Service.
Mike commented: “We are a not-for-profit organisation based here at The Zone. We aim to inspire people of all ages through four main areas which are Sport, Education, Health and Social Inclusion. Our departments use the influence of sport to engage people in the community and encourage them to participate in various sporting activities, not only to improve their health and well-being but to raise their hopes and aspirations.”
Following up from this, Baz and Nile gave a fantastic presentation on what it takes to be an Olympic Gymnast, highlighting how to develop excellence within a team. This was finished up by a Q&A session which gave businesses the chance to ask the Olympic duo about their sporting successes.
The event concluded with a buffet and more networking. Overall it was a night of athletic success, thoroughly enjoyed by all who attended!
