Our home grown Giants Competitive Cheerleaders attended their first regional competition

Published: 31st January 2017

The squads set out at 4am both Saturday and Sunday morning from The Zone to travel to Newcastle’s Northumbria University to compete against the best Cheerleading squads in the North at the Legacy Cheer and Dance “Stand Strong” regional competition.

The team of 24 received a good luck video from Olympic Gold Medallist Nile Wilson on their way to the competition wishing them all the best in their categories, which the team and parents were so thrilled about.

Mini Level 1 were the first to take to the floor on Saturday morning with a routine from the under 8’s category. Their routine was brand new this season with an all new group and although there were a few nervous wobbles they came away with an impressive 5th place.

Junior 3 Stunt Group (under 14s) took to the floor first thing on Sunday morning and pulled out an impressive routine for their first ever time at a brand new level and came away with an amazing 3rd place trophy.

Senior 3 Stunt Group were up against some of the hardest routines in the competition and did themselves justice by pulling in at 8th place.

The two team routines were left until later in the afternoon on Sunday with both Junior Level 1 and Senior Level 2 both coming away with 2nd place in their respective divisions.

The weekend was such an amazing success for both the cheerleaders and parents who all come to support the team in their first competition of the season.

Robyn Evans, Coach at the Dance Zone commented: “The standard of training and rehearsal has been second to none from our kids ever since the beginning of season. We are already on with reviewing the scoresheets from last weekend’s competition and have plans in place for the next few weeks to up our game throughout the rest of the season and are looking forward to our next competition in Sheffield in March and then National Championships in July in Birmingham. The parents have all been so fantastic in organising little bits behind the scenes to make things run smoothly. I’m one happy coach.”
