Giants support World Book Day Activities at Honley JI&N School
On Wednesday 6th March, Huddersfield Giants First team players Sam Hewitt and Joe Greenwood visited the local primary school in Honley to help inspire and encourage reading as the school launches their new reading initiative ‘Read for Life’.
The new initiative is a collaborative effort including support from Valli Opticians and Friends of Honley to create a culture of ‘reading for pleasure, reading for life’.
The morning included a school assembly where Sam and Joe spoke about their Rugby careers and experiences, shared their favourite books, followed by an inundated questions and answers session from the children and staff!
An inspiring opportunity followed as children from all year groups had the opportunity to listen and read to Sam and Joe, including staff members from Valli Opticians too.
Autographs a plenty, the most peculiar signature was on a toy lizard!
Lisa Darwin, CEO of Huddersfield Giants Community Trust said ‘We are proud to be able to support Honley JI & N school for their World Book Day activities. By using the power of the Giants badge and professional role models in Sam and Joe, it was a pleasure to help inspire the whole school and community.’
