Giants lose in a disappointing first clash with Leeds Rhinos U19s.
A thriving U19s team were defeated on Wednesday evening after producing a disappointing performance at Oulton Raiders ARLFC, whilst Leeds secured a 40-0 home win.
The first 40 minutes saw Leeds attacking hard which proved too difficult for Giants to deal with which in turn prevented them from getting into Leeds half.
The Giants were 12-0 down at halftime, and a team talk, unfortunately, didn’t prove to be the answer to reviving those all important points in the second half as Leeds got another quick try at the start of the second half. Unfortunately, fatigue struck in the second half for Giants and Leeds took advantage and were straight on the attack.
The final 10 minutes saw Giants try to scramble back points, but they couldn’t recover and Leeds continued to dominate the game. It was all too late, and it was Leeds Rhinos who secured a well-deserved win. The Huddersfield Giants U19’s team will be playing Leeds Rhinos U19’s again on 24th August on home soil at YMCA.
Disappointed with the result, Head Coach Stead commented: “There are no excuses. We didn’t play to our full potential. We had players that were being played out of their usual positions and we didn’t adapt like we should have.”
Reflecting on the team’s performance, Stead commented: “It’s all development and learning, and sometimes a loss is as good as a win. I have learnt a lot about the team and players and what we need to work on. I’m sure the girls don’t want to feel like that again and we hope it will give them a boost to try and get us another win. We are better than what we played and we have proved we can do more than what we produced on Wednesday.”
