Summer Holiday Activity camps a hit

Published: 13th September 2022

Huddersfield Giants Community Trust activity camps recently came to an end after 5 weeks of action packed entertainment!

Over the summer break more than 450 children from across the region engaged in our sport provisions! The activity camps were accessible to primary school children aged 5-11 with the trust delivering both Cheerleading & Gymnastics alongside Multi-Sport camp sessions.

The Zone, the home of HGCT was the location for the activity camps. The activities were held at their desired locations in the facility, which also included exclusive access into Yorkshire’s Largest Play Area!

Multi-Sport camp attendees were fortunate to have Huddersfield Giants Academy player Ben Dean support the camps with his Rugby knowledge and experience. He shared his advice, tips and skills through Rugby led sessions. Ben completed completed his Education studies through the Giants Education programme gaining a BTEC Sport Level 3. During his time, he gained valuable coaching experiences which is a bespoke provision alongside his studies. You can learn more about the Education programme HERE

We were delighted and thankful to work with our partners CoffeeSafe who pledged 100 fully funded places to engage children in sport through ‘The CoffeeSafe Fund’. The pledge enabled us to provide children who have limited access to these types of activity camps to have fun, keep fit, healthy and active through all the mainstream sports, which also included lunch and healthy snacks. A huge thank you to The Welcome Centre as we worked together to provide these opportunities to the children in South Kirklees.

Marc Crabtree, Managing Director of CoffeeSafe paid a visit to participate in the activities and see the activities first hand!

As we reach closer to the much anticipated Rugby League World Cup starting in October, we were delighted that the three trophies; mens, womens and wheelchair alongside mascot RugBEE, visited our activity camps. This was part of the #50DaysToGo campaign, as Kirklees is a host venue, leading to the start of the tournament starting on Saturday 15th October. This will be the most inclusive World Cup ever; with the Mens, Women’ and Wheelchair teams participating over the five week tournament! You can purchase tickets for the Quarter Finals at the John Smiths Stadium HERE

The next set of camps will be at October half term. Full details will be available very soon. Please make sure you keep your eyes peeled on our social media channels @GiantsCT
