The sounding boards, developed by Third Sector Leaders, are aimed at supporting leaders working across Third Sector organisations in Kirklees.
It aims to support organisations with a high level of guidance and advice by providing the opportunity for a third sector leader or manager to present an issue or challenge that they are currently facing to the board. The board then explores ways in which to help resolve the issue.
Cummins will provide senior staff to sit on the board to provide insight, guidance and support during the sounding board and will also present a ‘solution’ to the issue that has been brought to them.
Lucy Bristow, Community Involvement Team Leader at Cummins, said: “As part of our community involvement programme, we work hard to make a difference in our local area. We were eager to work with Huddersfield Community Trust to support the vital work it does in our town and beyond and we hope that our skills and insights have made a difference for them.”
Huddersfield Community Trust (HCT), a registered charity based at in-door venue The Zone, were the first organisation to take part in the Third Sector Leaders sounding board following the launch of the initiative. HCT presented their challenge around partnerships with private sector businesses.
Lisa Hewitt, CEO at Huddersfield Community Trust commented: “The time given up by these wonderful professionals was invaluable to our organisation. We have a fabulous opportunity to listen to a group of professionals, who have no ties to our organisation, discuss our ‘challenge’ and provide us with some respected thoughts that we are certain to take on board. We’d like to thank Third Sector Leaders for putting together the sounding boards and allowing us to be a part.”
HCT uses the influence of professional sport to engage people, improve community cohesion, improve fitness and well-being and raise the hopes and aspirations of the people of Kirklees, Calderdale and Wakefield. It is the community deliverer for Huddersfield Giants Rugby League Club.
Karen Hobson, Development Manager, from Third Sector Leaders, commented: “It was our pleasure to organise this event, it’s a great example of how the private sector can help support third sector organisations”
