THE GIANT HOWARTH SLEEPOUT 2

Huddersfield Giants Community Trust and The Howarth Foundation can confirm Sleepout number 2 is back at The John Smith’s Stadium on Friday 13th October 2023!

Are you passionate to make a big impact? We need your support!

This fundraising event is where we ask people in and around our networks to give up a night of comfort and spend a night outdoors to help highlight poverty and raise valuable funds which will support the work our charities deliver in our regions.

The Giant Howarth Sleepout is a large fundraiser for both charities and is a firm fixture in the annual calendar. It includes staff and volunteers giving up their time which ensures all funds raised will directly make an impact to our charity work and support those who are most in need, in our local community.

Last years instalment saw over 75 participants brave the elements, raising over £6,000 but we are back, bigger and better!

There will be a host of entertainment and activities, however the event is to provide a powerful insight into a one-off experience of what it is like to spend a night outdoors and how homeless individuals are currently coping on a daily basis.

We encourage businesses, business leaders (who may be looking at a CSR opportunity), team building, families (including children), individuals, sports groups, community groups, supporters, colleagues and others to come together and take part.

The Howarth Foundation works with local third sector organisations to support individuals who are or have been homeless back into employment. Part of this process is to provide work packages, to make the transition back into employment more accessible for the individual. One back to work package costs a minimum of £500, which includes food parcels, clothing, and travel.

Huddersfield Giants Community Trust is the official charity of the Huddersfield Giants and uses the power of the sport to engage and inspire individuals of all ages and abilities through four key areas: Sport, Education, Health and Social Inclusion. The Trust has a mission to support underserved children in the school holidays by providing mainstream sport camps and food packages to keep children active, healthy and engaged.

The event will begin on the Friday evening where participants will meet like minded groups and individuals who all have the same passion. (Meeting can be at The Zone at an earlier time) Once everyone has arrived plans will be made to start building their arrangements for the evening either in the concourse or brave the elements on the terrace! Guest speakers will share their experiences, hardship and the effects of homelessness/sleeping on the streets. The event will conclude at around 7am the following morning giving you the realities and hardship individuals go through on a daily basis.

On registering your place, we ask for a £10 registration fee. This will only apply per adult. (Please only register yourself, but share the link for others to join you)

We ask that each participant taking part on the Sleepout raises a minimum of £100.

Did you know?

  • There are more than 250 homeless individuals living within Kirklees.
  • 18% of children in Kirklees grow up in poverty, limiting their chances to take part in sport and physical activity.

Together, we will create opportunities, tackling poverty and changing lives to support individuals in our local community!
