Huddersfield Giants Community Trust’s new youth activity programme in Dewsbury has got off to a giant start, with a strong turnout at the opening session and already growing interest from young people across the local community. The encouraging attendance at the opening session highlights the demand for quality youth provision within the local area, with numbers expected to grow over the coming weeks.
The new programme provides young people aged 11 to 16 with a safe, positive and structured environment to take part in Rugby League and wider physical activity, while developing skills both on and off the field.
Using Rugby League as the primary engagement tool, the sessions build on a proud rugby league heritage and are delivered by the experienced Giants Community Trust coaches. Participants are given the opportunity to develop their physical skills while also building confidence, resilience, teamwork, communication and respect.
Alongside the sporting activities, young people will also have access to a range of educational workshops and discussion sessions delivered with partner organisations and guest speakers. These sessions will explore important issues affecting young people, including serious violence, knife crime, peer pressure, healthy relationships, the consequences of offending behaviour and the importance of making positive choices.
Jordan Foster, Head of Community at Huddersfield Giants Community Trust:
“It was great to see an excellent turnout our first session and the participants really engage with the activities. The programme is about much more than rugby; it’s about creating opportunities, building confidence and providing a positive environment where young people can develop. We’re excited to see the sessions continue to grow and expect an even bigger attendance over the coming weeks.”
