More than 80 supporters from across Kirklees came together at the Accu Stadium on Friday 16 October, braving a cold night under the stars to raise vital funds for vulnerable individuals and families in need of support.
Participants swapped the comfort of their own beds for cardboard on the stadium terraces, experiencing just a small glimpse of the challenges faced by those experiencing homelessness and hardship, all while supporting the work of Huddersfield Giants Community Trust and the Howarths Foundation.
The annual Sleepout is designed to raise both funds and awareness of the challenges faced by people experiencing homelessness and hardship. By giving up the comfort of home for just one night, participants gained a greater appreciation of the difficulties experienced by many individuals and families across the region.
Throughout the evening, sleepers learned more about the work being delivered by Huddersfield Giants Community Trust and the Howarths Foundation, and how funds raised through the event will help both organisations continue supporting vulnerable people within local communities.
This year’s event brought together supporters from a wide range of businesses and organisations, highlighting the power of partnership and community action in creating positive change.
The success of this year’s Sleepout was made possible thanks to the incredible support of participants, volunteers and the 28 Business Event Supporters, who demonstrated a shared commitment to helping local people facing difficult circumstances.
Among those taking part was Michelle Wood, Operations Manager at Medequip, who reflected on the experience:
“Honestly, taking part in the Sleepout was such a humbling experience and I’m incredibly proud of what everyone achieved together. Seeing the support, generosity and commitment from so many people was genuinely inspiring, and it was a privilege to be a small part of something that will make such a positive difference to those who need it most.
The event was so well organised, and it’s clear how much hard work, passion and dedication goes on behind the scenes to make it happen. Thank you for all the effort you’ve put in and for allowing us to support such an important cause.
I’m especially proud of the Medequip team for getting behind the event so enthusiastically, whether through fundraising, donations, helping with logistics, or braving a very chilly night sleeping out. The support from colleagues has been amazing.”
Lisa Darwin, CEO of Giants Community Trust, said:
“It was a very cold experience, probably the coldest year yet. We are truly grateful by the number of sleepers and businesses who supported us this year. I want to extend my thanks to everyone who participated and to the army of businesses backing our mission. The support has been overwhelming.”
Both organisations would like to thank everyone who participated, donated and supported the event. The donation page is still open until the end of October for anyone wishing to donate to the efforts of all our sleepers. Click HERE to donate.
