Giants Grow Evolution Pathway Program with introduction of U15s & U16s Player Development Days

Huddersfield Giants are delighted to announce that the hugely popular Evolution Pathway program will return in 2019, bigger and better than ever with the addition of Development Days for u15s and u16s players (Commencing 24th Nov 2018) upon the existing u12s-u14s program (Commencing February 2019).

The expansion of the program will see hundreds of players from across the region aged 10 to 16 get the opportunity to receive outstanding Rugby League coaching within a professional club environment. It will also provide players who have attended development days for the past three years as u12, 13 and 14s players to continue their development as they progress in their junior careers.

The development day sessions will run in the school holidays (u12-14) and weekends (u15-u16) where players are coached in line with the Giants Scholarship, Academy and First team structures. The sessions will support the development of players as well as local community clubs and talent pool alongside the England Talent Pathway program.

Giants Head of Youth, Andy Kelly, commented: “We want to encourage people that are curious about Rugby League to give it a go and also for kids that want to push themselves. It’s a great opportunity not just for the players but also for coaches and teachers to participate or come along and observe.” “This programme helps us to identify people and talent, who we think have the attributes to take them forward to the next level. It also helps to give young players an insight into what the next level is, as the content of the programme is designed around it being accessible to all categories.”

The success of the program in 2018 has been highlighted with players progressing to the Huddersfield Giants Scholarship and Category 3 Academy Programs. However Huddersfield Giants Head of Community, Jonathan Timms was keen to add “The program is not all about performance. Regardless of the level at which you play or your future ambitions as a player, the program is open to all. Any and all players from the relevant age groups are welcome, our overall aim is to improve all community game players and coaches through professional coaching”.

Under 12, 13 and 14s sessions will remain as full day camps held at Leeds Road Sports Complex 9am-2pm with a registration fee of £30 covering all sessions including a FREE O’Neills training shirt. Under 15 and 16s sessions will be delivered at The DRAM Sport & Community Centre from 9am to 10:30 and will be FREE of charge supported by HGCT Education.

One parent of an under 13s player spoke particularly highly of the development days in 2018. “The coaching the kids receive is first class, you can see them been challenged beyond what they have done before picking up and learning new skills. The sessions are well structured and most of all fun as well as developing the players”.
