Junior Festival To Return In Memory Of Costello

Published: 24th May 2019

Huddersfield Giants Community Trust will once more host the Ronan Costello Memorial Festival on 12th June 2019 supported by St Andrews Motor Co.

In previous years the event has seen hundreds of junior players sharing Ronan’s passion for the sport in aid of the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and Headway charities.

Asked about his fondness of the event, Head of Community Development Jonathan Timms commented.

“The event is a fantastic demonstration of the Rugby League family coming together to remember and celebrate the life of Ronan in the best way possible, by playing the game he loved while also raising valuable funds to support the work of the charities closest to the Costello family. Three years ago Steve Hardisty brought up the idea and we welcomed hundreds of under 7, 8 and 9 players a few months later. Since then the event has got bigger each year raising thousands of pounds and we are excited to see it return this year as we fondly remember Ronan as a club.”

As in previous years, the event will be held at Leeds Road Sports Complex on Huddersfield Giants’ training pitch with check in from 6 pm and games commencing 6:30 pm with the event to conclude at 8 pm.

Under 7s, 8s and 9s teams are encouraged to register their attendance online as soon as possible should they wish to attend the event as there are a limited number of places. All teams attending will be required to make a £25 donation at the point of registration, all proceeds going to The Yorkshire Air Ambulance and Headway.

Teams can register and find out more information by clicking HERE. All players will receive a medal and be invited to Huddersfield Giants Vs Wigan Warriors on Friday 21st June free of charge to celebrate the event and Ronan’s life once more at half time.

The event will be supported in 2019 by St Andrews Motor Co. Managing Director Tim Marsden commented on his support of the event. “I always look to support the local community where I can and I have a strong passion for Rugby League, in particular, Huddersfield Giants. To support an event of this nature and see hundreds of young children playing the game in memory of Ronan Costello was something I was very keen to do and I am looking forward to seeing all the players on the night raising valuable funds for Headway and the Yorkshire Air Ambulance”.
