NEW Multi-Sensory to be launched

Published: 3rd April 2024

Giants Community Trust are delighted to announce the launch of the new Multi-Sensory Room at The Zone – alongside Harry Rushton, as an Ambassador!

The new Multi-Sensory zone (MSZ), inside our community facility, The Zone, is a state of the art modern interactive and immersive space, which will be launched on Thursday 18th April.

Launching the room marks a significant step forward on our mission to support and improve the well-being and outcomes of individuals in need throughout Kirklees and surrounding areas.

Delighted to help launch the facility is Huddersfield Giants First Team player Harry Rushton who is excited to emphasis the importance of the room after only recently learning about sensory needs.

Harry adds: On my recent visit to The Zone I was made aware of the facility and it’s final touches. Now having a much better understanding of the benefits the room can bring, I’m delighted to become an Ambassador to help raise the profile and awareness of the room for users to utilise.

The MSZ is situated in a quiet room within the ground floor of The Zone providing a calming, quiet and stimulating environment. As a multi-purpose room, the benefits of the MSZ is not just limited to children with a diagnosis, it can also extend to benefit adults and the elderly.

Located in the heart of the Huddersfield community, just off St Andrews Road – the MSZ provides a complete immersive and interactive experience, that is accessible and adaptable for the users. It can support skills such as exploring and identifying emotions, support the development of core skills such as: self-awareness, self-regulation, motor skills, and social and emotional development. All of which are essential elements in the holistic support for an individual.

The launch date – Thursday 18th April at The Zone is open for all to attend, lead by our Inclusion Manager, Sheila Conroy. There will be free sessions to visit and gather a further understanding of the facility, and try out the room first hand.

Sheila adds: I am delighted to finally share the launch and lead on the journey to create a safe space in Kirklees to support individuals and users needs. I hope you can come join us throughout the day and experience the room and learn more about the opportunities we can create.

Lisa Darwin CEO of Giants Community Trust, who initiated and fundraised tirelessly for the MSZ, adds: “As Chief Executive, I am immensely proud to witness the culmination of our efforts in bringing the Multi-Sensory Zone to fruition within The Zone. This innovative space represents a pivotal advancement in our commitment to enhancing the well-being and outcomes of those in need within our community.
