SKY TRY FUNDING CONFIRMED FOR 2018/19

Published: 13th July 2018

We are delighted to announce that we have recently received confirmation of further funding to develop and grow the sport that is Rugby League in our local area. As Huddersfield Giants Community we are proud to be able to continue to develop more children and young people to have fun, get active and grow in confidence through the sport.

Sky Try is the biggest ever programme of Rugby League opportunities in schools and is providing hundreds of thousands of children and young people a high-quality introduction to the sport. The programme helps them find more local playing opportunities, from school teams to local community clubs and the award-winning talent pathway.

Chris Cullimore, Head of Giants Community reflected over the past 12 months: “We have managed to engage with over 10,000 children with Rugby League and are confident to do the same and more within the next year. Sky Try has enabled us to expand our reach in the community into key areas to develop Rugby League. We have also been able to focus on our Community Clubs which in turn has allowed a positive message to be demonstrated. In turn, we have also been able to engage with more schools, Coaches and staff as a result.

We’ve also been fortunate enough to have the support of Huddersfield Giants first-team players at our sessions including the likes of Jermaine McGillvary who also plays internationally for England. Additionally, we hold monthly meetings to continue to develop the vital link between Huddersfield Giants Community and our Ambassador Clubs.”

Jonathan Timms, Head of Sport at Huddersfield Community Trust commented: “As well as supporting SkyTry and funded initiatives, we have also recently launched our Schools Partnership programme to connect with even more children and young people through Rugby League. The initiative has enabled us to engage with more primary schools and in turn, our relationships with the schools and young people have more longevity.

The program allows us to utilise our branding and PE expertise to positively impact young people within our communities. Our vision is that no young person leaves high school obese and that everyone in our community confidently engages in sport and physical activity, thus leading healthy, active lives.”
