The University of Huddersfield Sponsor The Girls England Talent Pathway

Published: 14th June 2018

The University of Huddersfield is backing The Girls England Talent Pathway.

Delivered locally by Huddersfield Giants Community, The Girls England Talent Pathway (ETP) program targeted at 11-16-year-olds aims to raise the participation of girls in rugby league within the Kirklees area, providing a pathway for female players in a professional environment. The program ensures the players receive a consistent, high standard of coaching & development, preparing them for future regional and national teams. The project has been a natural progression for the Giants Community team who have worked with a number of Community Clubs to increase participation to then link into their women’s super league side in 2019.

As the new ETP partner, The University of Huddersfield will feature on all marketing materials which are distributed to every school and community club within Kirklees. They will also be featured on all social media channels, including that of Huddersfield Giants.

Dr Kiara Lewis has said the sponsorship agreement will provide the programme with a further boost. She commented: “We know that being physically active is really important for young people and more needs to be done to enable girls, in particular, to be active. Programmes such as the England Talent Pathway are important in promoting opportunities for girls to take part in rugby”

Business Partnership Manager Rachael Lakey at Huddersfield Community Trust commented “It is really important to us at Huddersfield Community Trust that we have the links with our local University. I am sure that the collaboration will greatly enhance the program. We hope this will be the start of working more closely together”

As well as financial support, all participants on the program will benefit from a branded T-shirt which will include the Huddersfield University logo.

Acting Head of Department of Allied Health Professions, Sport and Exercise, BASES accredited Sport and Exercise Scientist, Dr Kiara Lewis commented: “We are delighted to be supporting the England Talent Pathway Programme in promoting rugby league for girls in the region and look forward to working in partnership with Huddersfield Community Trust.”
